D.C. United
A New Stadium
For Fans
Getting a new soccer stadium built by mobilizing fans
Challenge
After two failed attempts to get a new stadium built for the D.C. United soccer club, new team owners decided to commit to a full campaign to gain legislative and community support and approvals for a new $300M stadium in Washington, D.C.
Solution
Working closely with the client’s community engagement specialists, Grassroots Online provided the platform and advocacy tools to convert support at the door into an email to Council members. Grassroots Online also built and managed the advocacy hub that provided details on the project and updates on the campaign.
Highlights
The client was able to garner enough secure approval for a 20,000 seat Major League Soccer stadium for the D.C. United franchise. In December 2014 Washington, D.C. Council voted unanimously to approve the plan. Audi Field broke ground in February 2017 and opened on July 2018.
